Gonzo gets a job! At a college!
Texas Tech has hired Alberto Gonzales. From TPM Muckraker:
The press release, which says Gonzales will work as both a recruiter and teach a junior-level course on “contemporary issues in the executive branch,” makes no mention of Gonzo’s involvement in the U.S. attorneys scandal (among other things) or his subsequent resignation. Instead, it ends with, “…and later was appointed Attorney General.”Nice.
Specifically, Gonzales will be responsible for “recruiting and retaining first generation and underrepresented students,” and will help plan a leadership training program for minority and first generation students at both Texas Tech and Angelo State University. In addition to his class, he’ll also guest lecture for other courses.
“His own upbringing in Houston as part of a migrant family with eight children makes him qualified to tell underrepresented Texas students that college is possible,” said Kent Hance, chancellor of Texas Tech. “He will help Texas Tech and ASU prepare our students for success and to be future leaders in the State of Texas and beyond.”
Oh sweet Jaysus in a speedo. Gonzo will help prepare students for success? LMFAO!

Group seeks disbarment for 12 BushCo lawyers

A liberal activist group has filed disciplinary complaints in four states and the District of Columbia calling for the disbarment of twelve lawyers they say are associated with the Bush administration’s position on torture.The complaints — running more than 500 pages — enumerate in excruciating detail the case against key Bush officials that participated in defending “torture techniques” employed by the administration against alleged al Qaeda suspects.
The complaints are posted online at disbartorturelawyers.com.
The complaints were filed against former White House Legal Counsel attorneys John Yoo, Jay Bybee (pictured above right) and Stephen Bradbury; former Attorney Generals Alberto Gonzales, John Ashcroft and Michael Mukasey; former Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff; former chief of staff to Vice President Dick Cheney David Addington, Alice Fisher, William Haynes II, Douglas Feith and Timothy Flanigan with the state bars in the District of Columbia, New York, California, Texas and Pennsylvania.
Gonzo, Ashcroft, Addington and of course Yoo and Bybee..these folks are the cream of the torture crop! You can view all the State Bar Complaints here, along with the exhibits they included with the State Bar filings on an individual basis.
Holder to dismiss case against Ted ‘Intertubes’ Stevens
Hot damn…this would be funny if it wasn’t so freaking pathetic. From the LAT writeup:
Attorney General Eric Holder has concluded that the conviction of Stevens cannot be supported because of problems with the government’s prosecution, which had been openly criticized by the trial judge, National Public Radio first reported.

U.S. District Judge Emmet Sullivan had criticized prosecutors for misconduct, and held Justice Department lawyers in contempt last month for failing to turn documents over to him as ordered. He called their behavior “outrageous.”

Holder is said to have based his decision on Stevens’ age, the fact that he is no longer in the Senate — and “perhaps most importantly,” because the new attorney general wanted to “send a message” to prosecutors that misconduct will not be tolerated, NPR reported this morning.Holder started his own career in the Public Integrity section of the Justice Department. The attorney general also knows the trial judge, Sullivan, well – the two served together as superior court judges.
I was afraid this case would be overturned on appeal because of the numerous fuck-ups by the prosecution lawyers..guess we don’t have to wait for that to happen now…Teddy will be a free man shortly…damn it. Ah yes, the Gonzo Justice Dept flunkies struck again!
