Repubs: Strong on Terror, weak as hell on Vet’s medical benefits

VoteVets.org has released a new ad today which will run in CA. District 4, home of incumbent John Doolittle. You can watch the ad here. Senator Barack Obama, who sits on the Vet.Affairs Committee, understands the need for increasing the monies for the Dept of Veterans Affairs and has co-sponsored bills to increase Vets medical care coverage.

No matter how you feel about the war in Iraq, you certainly want the over 44,000 injured Vets returning home to get the medical treatement and benefits they deserve. Evidently many of our elected officials don’t see it that way. Here is a timeline showing attempts to increase funding for Veterans medical benefits..which were constantly shot down by the Republican-led legislatures, which is pointed out in this article in WaPo.

The most recent article on Veterans health care funding I could find is this one from CSPAN. The vote talley can be found here..only 1 Democrat voted against the funding..the rest were Republicans.

I guess the Republicans are strong on terror, but when it comes to taking care of our Veterans..not so much.

  1. When you say “Strong on ‘Tur’ ,” if you mean strong on CREATING “Tur,” then you’re 100% correct.

  2. Of course m’dear, thats a given 😉

  3. I remember reading somewhere, and maybe I am remembering it incorrectly, that the US spends 2 billion/year just on the Gulf War vet benefits. That’s 2 billion/ yr for a conflict that lasted 100 days. This war has lasted, what, 12-15X longer? Not counting the awful injuries suffered by the 30,000 wounded that are never reported. When you here wounded, you think of some movie character with a superficial gunshot wound to his shoulder, not severe head injuries and blown off limbs. The media rarely reports the severitiy of the injuries. Damn, I wish I could remember where I read that. Some good facts. So many head injuries requiring around the clock care for the rest of their lives.

  4. The guys with the head injuries wouldn’t of lived during the Vietnam war. I have a great article up on anothe site about the head injuries..I will find it if you like S.R.

  5. That is a great blog..thanks SR, I blogrolled it.here is one of the links I used today whilst argueing with rightwingers on the Californian blog I have:http://www.newsobserver.com/110/story/480210.htmlIts not the best one, but I can’t find it right now.

  6. Use them, abuse them, and forget about them. Hell of a way to support our troops.

  7. I found the Pottersville site from the Dead Issue blogroll.

  8. PoP..they have done it forever..why stop now?

  9. Folks have many good sites in their blogrolls. Thats how I find many excellent blogs SR..like you for instance “)
