Ford Disagreed with Bush about invading Iraq.

Disagreed with the whole shooting match..no pun at Deadeye Dick intended..he also didn’t have much nice to say about Rummy and Cheney regarding the Iraq war either..Good read up over at WaPo. Its an interview Ford did a few years ago, but wouldn’t allow it to be published until after his death..and with good cause after you read it. Some choice quotes from the interview:

“Rumsfeld and Cheney and the president made a big mistake in justifying going into the war in Iraq. They put the emphasis on weapons of mass destruction,” Ford said. “And now, I’ve never publicly said I thought they made a mistake, but I felt very strongly it was an error in how they should justify what they were going to do.”

*snip*

“Well, I can understand the theory of wanting to free people,” Ford said, referring to Bush’s assertion that the United States has a “duty to free people.” But the former president said he was skeptical “whether you can detach that from the obligation number one, of what’s in our national interest.” He added: “And I just don’t think we should go hellfire damnation around the globe freeing people, unless it is directly related to our own national security.”

Go check it out my dear reader..worth your time I think.

About Dusty, hells most vocal bitch

I am a..brown Cali bitch that is quite the opinionated, political, pain-in-the-ass, in your face kinda girl that also loves baseball and music to a fault. Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the universe.--Albert Einstein-*

  1. I love the trend of us liberals harkoning back to the good old days when conservatives actually had their heads screwed on strait. By the time we realized, it was too late.By the way, sorry to criticise, but the new grew on grey is amost impossible for me to read. Looks nice though.

  2. Scratch that criticism, if I take my cursor off it, I can read it.

  3. I have to figure out how to change the colors on the type Prague..I just got tired of the other template..and wanted something cleaner.I really think Eisenhower had the right ideas on many things..yes it is strange how we go back to the real conservatives..

  4. I went over and read the article. For what it’s worth, it’s not bad, but his insistence that it <>not<> be published until <>after<> his death takes a big bite out of it IMO. Saying that publicly in 2004 may have gone a long way towards shoring up what was a barely mediocre Presidency(his), and it may have shifted some positions before the elections that came 5 months later. Not having the courage to let his anti-administration opinions be known leads me to think even less highly of him now than when I was discharged from the Army in 1975.

  5. Jeff, Ford was a life long company man..meaning a true Repube..for that reason alone, I think he wished to hold his opinions until after his death. It doesn’t make it right..just saying I think I understand.Knowing how Bush is towards the views of his own father..I highly doubt Ford’s pov would of done anything to change his mind, or those that supported Bush43’s move into Iraq.

  6. I saw that. I can understand why he wouldn’t want it out before, but kind of think that it is his responsibility to speak up as a former president and influential leader

  7. Look..lawyers and doctors cover each others asses..many professions to that. Its not unusual..and I personally do not hold it against him for keeping it until he died..fact is..the shrub is still in office so its very timely now! 🙂

  8. Everybody seems to be heaping praise on Ford NOW, much the same way they did after Reagan died. This I know. When Reagan was in office, you couldn’t find a job ANYWHERE. Hubby was a fireman during those years, and being a civil servant, did not get a RAISE for 10 YEARS.As for Ford, when he pardoned Nixon, he shut down the Watergate investigation. I’m sorry any old man dies, but this was just another “protect the party” man. At all costs.

  9. HGC..I hated him for that pardon. I still do.and yes..big ol party-line guy..big time.

  10. I posted this one too, Dusty. On another matter, can you drop by and offer some encouraging words to a friend? Sheri, wife of Robert of Left of Centrist has a great little blog that centers on the needs of families with special needs children. She’s considering giving up that blog due to the actions of a local neo-con asshat!I urge everyone who reads this to offer her supporting comments! Thanks for your help!< HREF="http://sherific.blogspot.com" REL="nofollow">Aint that Sherific?<>

  11. Since I live in Ford’s final restimng place, the news has been all about what a great man he was, so this remark went under the radar while they all ran stories about where Gerald and Betty <> really<> got married. If Ford were such a great man, he would demonstrated courage by making these remarks be known when he made them, not after he was dead and safely out of reach of the corpocracy he strove so hard to p[rotect by pardoning Nixon and altering the bullet wounds on Kennedy in the Warren Commission report.

  12. Ford wasn’t a great man..he was a putz who was picked for VP because he was wishy-washy enough to please even the Democrats. He was also a pussy for not having the balls to come out and say what he thought about Bush43 while he was still alive..anyone still reading the Woodward piece on WaPo? Lots of info still coming out.

  13. I am not a fan of covering other’s asses if it hurts someone not involved in the process. In the sense of a war, there is no allowable reason why someone should say the war was a horrible idea but keep it quiet. I think Ford should have put something out every day leading up to the invasion saying that he thought President Bush was making a mistake and lives would be lost because of it. There is no way to go back now and say the invasion never happened and lives were never lost because of it.President Ford and every person who didn’t speak up or pay attention to what was really going on leading up to Iraq has the blood of all those lost and injured since.

  14. I agree Me4..he is not only a putz but culpable as well.
