Office of Special Counsel to investigate Rove

Its about friggin’ time:

WASHINGTON — Most of the time, an obscure federal investigative unit known as the Office of Special Counsel confines itself to monitoring the activities of relatively low-level government employees, stepping in with reprimands and other routine administrative actions for such offenses as discriminating against military personnel or engaging in prohibited political activities.

But the Office of Special Counsel is preparing to jump into one of the most sensitive and potentially explosive issues in Washington, launching a broad investigation into key elements of the White House political operations that for more than six years have been headed by chief strategist Karl Rove.

The new investigation, which will examine the firing of at least one U.S. attorney, missing White House e-mails, and White House efforts to keep presidential appointees attuned to Republican political priorities, could create a substantial new problem for the Bush White House.

EDIT: David Iglesias was on Chris Matthews tonight and stated he filed a claim that the Hatch Act was violated by his firing and he filed the claim with the Office of the Special Prosecutor . I would suggest this is the tip of the iceberg. Iglesias was on a phone interview on Matthew’s show. He also called Gonzo a figurehead AG.

Once again, we shall see if Rove can skate through an investigation.

About Dusty, hells most vocal bitch

I am a..brown Cali bitch that is quite the opinionated, political, pain-in-the-ass, in your face kinda girl that also loves baseball and music to a fault. Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the universe.--Albert Einstein-*

  1. He will make it though fine, but some putz will be fired and Bush will thank him for his service and give him a medal.I used to think Rove was an evil genius, but now I think he is just evil. It is not brains that has gotten him this far, but fear of his opponents and his allies that keeps them from going after him with all they have.

  2. Scott, I don’t think Rover can skate through this unscathed. I am hoping for a good outcome..which means Rove goes down..

  3. There isn’t a lot I actually pray for in politics but Rove finally being accountable for his actions is one of them.I agree that the man is evil. I watched the AG’s testimony with popcorn in my hands, I very much look forward to this jackass being under oath. Then I look forward to his perjury trail.I can dream at least.

  4. Ester..I know what you mean..I pray for Rove to do the perpwalk..indeed!

  5. My prediction…He’ll skate by totally unscathed. Sorry, Dusty but as long as liberals continue to vote for the Democratic Party, this kind of garbage will continue ad nauseum.

  6. Is the Office of Special Counsel beholden to the Justice Department, or Congress. If it is overseen by Justice, then I cant say as I’ve got much confidence in it “finding” anything about Rove, as that department is tainted for me now. As someone asked, “what did the other, <>un<>fired U.S. attorneys do in order to keep their jobs?Oh, and Karl is totally evil. I suspect he <>emits<> evil, tainting averyone in his vicinity.

  7. toss his sorry ass in the can and throw away the key! better yet, ship him off to gitmo. i’ve had it with all of these felons!

  8. I am very confused by all of this. Let me state it clearly at the outset: I DESPISE KARL ROVE AND WHAT HIS EFFORTS HAVE DONE TO THE NATION OF MY BIRTH (Here’s the pure proof: I am a recent expatriate and no, not sent to where I am as an employee of some company! — by the way, I loathe people who talk it but don’t have the balls to do it as so many did following Kerry’s miserable failure). But I’ve got a lot of problems with what I’ve read in these comments. Let me deal with them in no particular order. I agree that Karl Rove is not a genius. I do, however, believe that he is extremely bright and capable and I only wish the Democrats had the ability to appreciate their own version of Karl Rove: Howard Dean.Aside from Rove’s ascent impressive as it has been in its way, think for a minute just how elegant (in the mathematical sense) his approach to 2000 was. He took a very simple historical model, the election of McKinley as managed by Mark Hanna (Rove) and the maintainance thereof with the help of Hearst (Murdoch and the rest of the mainstream press), updated it for the present and ran it to its conclusion fearlessly. That’s pretty impressive, morality aside.I also have a problem about the criminal justice element of all of this. I don’t give a rat’s ass how hypocritical Republicans are with regard to crime and punishment. I will always support the individual against the institution. If Rove is found guilty and sentenced to a long prison term and the prosecution was an honest one, I’ll consider justice served. I take no joy whatsoever in the idea that somehow years of sexual bondage is a proper part of the criminal sanction. Not for a car thief. Not for Rove. Should Rove get a long sentence I only hope we get a national debate on prison reform. And I haven’t the faintest idea if Rove’s behavior has been criminal or not. My guess is yes but I don’t know. We’ll see what happens. Rove aside, I DO believe that Bush, Cheney and Powell’s actions meet a criminal standard. And nobody cry for Powell, please. He’s a monster like the rest of them. Those are my wooden nickels.

  9. And one more thing…if anything I wrote with regard to criminal justice has made any reader think a little more deeply about the issue, I’m thrilled. And here’s a very simple thing you can do for a start: STOP WATCHING “LAW-AND-ORDER,” “CSI,” AND ALL OF THE SPIN-OFFS AND ANY OF THE RE-RUNS OF NYPD BLUE. It’s just right-wing propaganda and a damn sight more effective right-wing propaganda than anything Hitler or Stalin’s ministers ever came up with.

  10. Well well..it seems we have a myriad of opinions here..perhaps a small bet should be placed? A blogging bet of some sort? think on it my precious readers and let me know 🙂
