CBO numbers are in for HCR bill.

Politico has the 411 from the CBO, regarding the so-called health care reform bill:

The bill would cost $940 billion, and reduce the deficit by $130 billion over the first 10 years and $1.2 trillion in the second 10 years. The deficit numbers Democrats have been most worried about, and will be key to convincing moderates to coming on board with the bill.
Here are the details, according to House Democrats:
1. CUTS THE DEFICIT Cuts the deficit by $130 billion in the first ten years (2010 – 2019). Cuts the deficit by $1.2 trillion in the second ten years. 2. REINS IN WASTEFUL MEDICARE COSTS AND EXTENDS THE SOLVENCY OF MEDICARE; CLOSES THE PRESCRIPTION DRUG DONUT HOLE Reduces annual growth in Medicare expenditures by 1.4 percentage points per year—while improving benefits and lowering costs for seniors. Extends Medicare’s solvency by at least 9 years. 3. EXPANDS AND IMPROVES HEALTH COVERAGE FOR MIDDLE CLASS FAMILIES Expands health insurance coverage to 32 million Americans Helps guarantee that 95 percent of Americans will be covered. 4. IS FULLY PAID FOR Is fully paid for – costs $940 billion over a decade. (Americans spend nearly $2.5 trillion each year on health care now and nearly two-thirds of the bill’s cost is paid for by reducing health care costs.

It’s getting harder for me to have any faith in the Democrat’s. Like Kucinich, I think this bill is bullshit and more corporate welfare for the insurance companies. Uninsured folks, like my son who has never had health insurance as an adult, will not be able to sign up for healthcare until 2013.

  1. I want to know what's in the fine print. Does anyone really know whats in it. The lobbyists wrote the damn thing.

  2. Last time I checked it had not been posted online OF. If you find it..lemme know ok?

  3. I doubt the estimate takes into account the fact that premiums will skyrocket when the mandates kick in.  (Remember how auto insurance rates went through the roof after car insurance became mandatory in California, and the fake “insurance crisis” that was used to push the rate increases and coverage cutbacks through?)

  4. I doubt it too Libhomo. Plus it could end up not saving a fucking dime.

  5. When the rates go up (and up and up), maybe the insurance industry will be finally recognized as the parasite it is, by the whole damned country this time. It'll also be a blow to the whole idea of the market “regulating itself”, which works about as well as 8-year olds regulating themselves does.

Or not. We are, perhaps, the stupidest people on the planet these days.

  6. This is anothe sell out. 20 Billion of those savings are because the Student Loan program is added into this bill. This was written for and by the Ins. Corps. Obama never intended for there to be a public option, he made that deal with them months ago. This is more of the spineless dems [go along to get along]. Now the dems will run around yelling look what we did for you. YOU DID NOGTHING. You gave the INS cORPS 32 million more customers.
Think of the money that would have and should have been saved if we had gone to ONE PAYER. that is right foks, Socialized Medicine was the one and only call.

This site will show you where all the Critters got their money from, and how they then voted. Both sides of the aisle are traitors, and saboteurs to society.

  7. RZ, maplight is  a wonderful site, that shines a bright light into the beady rat eyes of the elected bags o' batshit. 😉

  8. Ya, I thought you and others would like that. Great tool for truth to power.

  9. Just have a quick questionf or ya…could not find an email!  I am the owner of the mahablog.  Please get a hold of me at barbaraobrien@maacenter.org

  10. And the numbers are fudged.  They will put more spending in with other bills.  Don't believe me, just keep your eyes open…

  11. I didn't want to vote for Obama but did so because of the looming Supreme Court nomination.  He let me down with Sotomayor.  He had an opportunity to pick the very best and chose to go with a politically correct but weak candidate.  It is my opinion that she lacks the intellectual vigor, energy and talent to fight Scalia and Alito and it's for sure they will not give her any ground on the basis of “equal opportunity.”  I find her sort of a female Clarence Thomas kind of thing.

Had anyone been serious about enabling people to have health insurance and access to care, Medicare would have been opened for voluntary enrollment.  Obama and the Democratic congress (both houses) labored mightily and brought forth a 2,000 page mouse for health care reform.  It is basically a mandated channeling of tax payer money to for profit corporations and does nothing to address the existing dire need.   I have some sympathy for having to battle the Repubs but the end result was a complete sell-out to Repub ideas and a failure to achieve much of anything.  Most provisions take effect so far out that it's just a joke.   Disgusting!

If this guy is on my side, I don't think I need an enemy.  I keep hearing about how smart he is but I'm still waiting to see evidence of the claim.

I have a sinking feeling that any finance, banking, or lending law reform will be of similar, half-assed, pablum-like strenth and effectiveness.

If you have any money to support a politician, you would be well advised to send it to Wiener, Kucinich, and Sanders.

Obama isn't Bush and that's about the best I can say for him.   His middle name has got to be INEFFECTIVE.

    Sheesh!

    Jay in N.C.
