Category Archives: Contempt of Congress
No, it’s not a joke..its a court order. From TPM Muckraker:
Harriet Miers is not immune from compelled congressional process; she is legally required to testify pursuant to a duly issued congressional subpoena from plaintiff; and Ms. Miers may invoke executive privilege in response to specific questions as appropriate.
and that. . .
Joshua Bolten and Ms. Miers shall produce all non-privileged documents requested by the applicable subpoenas and shall provide to plaintiff a specific description of any documents withheld from production on the basis of executive privilege consistent with the terms of the Memorandum Opinion issued on this dateDon’t you just love the smell of pissed off Republicans early in the morning? Remember, its better to be pissed off than pissed on…
This morning, the birds are chirping, the sun is out, the sky is blue and Karl Rove is a wanted man.
The House Judiciary Committee voted 20-14 to hold Karl Rove in contempt for failing “to respond to a subpoena to face questioning from the Committee on the prosecution of former Alabama Gov. Don Siegelman“, per TPM Muckraker.
Don’t you just love the stench of partisan politics in the morning? Of all the shit that Krazy Karl has pulled..they use this one? I mean wtf people? Outing Valerie Plame, the firing of the USA’s and a host of other mierda can be laid at the feet of that pasty piece of batshit..
The Washington Independent has a nice primer up that explores what can happen next. Check it out.
Good question pal! Many of us have wondered the same damn thing. From TPM muckraker:
In a motion hearing in federal court today, U.S. District Judge John Bates questioned why Congress didn’t simply arrest former White House counsel Harriet Miers and Chief of Staff Josh Bolten after both refused to respond to subpoenas issued by the House Judiciary Committee:
Congress has the authority to hold someone in contempt, U.S. District Judge John Bates said. Did it really need to go to court? House counsel Irvin Nathan said it did.
The Constitution gives Congress the ability to arrest and hold people that are in contempt of a congressional subpoena. It has been interpreted this way since SCOTUS ruled in the 1800’s:
The Supreme Court upheld the practice in 1821, reasoning that without it, Congress “would be exposed to every indignity and interruption that rudeness, caprice or even conspiracy may mediate against it.” The ruling gave Congress the right to imprison uncooperative witnesses for contempt, but for no longer than the duration of the Congress that passed the citation.
This is a no- brainer for me. It shows once again how spineless these Democrats really are. Perhaps BushCo would take them more seriously if they tried it. fuckers..
The title is tongue in cheek of course..as I am sure no one on this planet is shocked by the news that Rover will not be visiting the Hill as a guest of the House Judiciary Committee.
The latest request for Krazy Karl to appear is based on the investigation into the Don Siegelman affair..by affair I mean that the Rethugs seriously made hay at Don’s expense. From the RawStory writeup:
In his latest offer to settle the matter, Rove sent the panel a letter offering to respond to questions in writing, according to his attorney. But he reiterated that he would not testify publicly and under oath.
Committee leaders did not immediately answer questions about how they will respond. Earlier this month, they threatened to subpoena Rove if he did not agree to appear voluntarily by Monday.
Sweet friggin Jaysus, wtf do the idiots think they can do? They have subpoenaed this jackass how many times now and still not done a damn thing to him.
The Dems have no balls nor do they plan to rent any during this session of Congress. What a fucking pity…BushCo is not only in Contempt of Congress, they actually have contempt for Congress.
Seems Mukasey won’t be referring Josh Bolten and Harriet Miers’ contempt charges to a Grand Jury. That is a surprise right? LOL..of course it isn’t. According to Mukasey:
Ooooh..a lawsuit? Bet that strikes fear in their hearts. Why doesn’t Nannie go after Bush and Cheney with this type of gusto and dedication?
It’s a rhetorical question..I know why. She IS part of the culture of corruption.
