BushCo’s Monica..

The report (pdf) on how Monica Goodling and John Nowacki politicized the US Attorneys Office is out. Thanks to TPM Muckraker for the link to the actual report, which is over 140 pages. TPM also took the time to scour through the report for the ‘evidence’. The following is from the TPM writeup:

The OIG report released today on the politicized hiring at the Justice Department, details a number of the candidates that were de-selected for positions under Monica Goodling’s watch. One of them, was an “experienced terrorism prosecutor. . [who] had successfully prosecuted a high-profile terrorism case for which he received the Attorney General’s Award for Exceptional Service.”

Unfortunately for him, he had a wife who was a Democrat.

In the report, page 30 (page 25 on the actual report) starts the Evidence and Analysis portion of the report. This one line about Goodling’s testimony in front of the Congress critters last year kinda jumped right out at me:

We believe that several of Goodling’s assertions in this written statement were inaccurate.

No shit Sherlock..what was your first clue? Back to the reports findings:

Based on our investigation, we concluded that Goodling and Nowacki improperly used political or ideological affiliations when assessing waiver requests from interim U.S. Attorneys in at least three cases, which violated Department policy and federal law, and also constituted misconduct.

The most troubling case involved a request from Washington, D.C. interim U.S. Attorney Taylor. Goodling did not initially approve the waiver request. When Taylor called Goodling about the pending request, she told him that the candidate gave her pause because, judging from his résumé, he appeared to be a “liberal Democrat.” Goodling also mentioned that because Republicans had lost control of Congress after the November 2006 elections, she expected that Republican congressional staff might apply to the USAO in Washington. Taylor rightfully responded that these were impermissible considerations and that U.S. Attorneys will lose credibility if they are perceived to make politicized hiring decisions.

Yet, even after this discussion, Goodling did not initially approve the waiver request. Only after Taylor complained to OAG Chief of Staff Sampson, who directed Goodling to approve the request, did Goodling send an e-mail approving the waiver.

There is more, but I don’t want to wear out your eyeballs so early in the week m’dear reader..check it out if your interested. I just want Monica and her pal Nowacki, who also went to the same religious law school as Monica, to be charged with crimes. All these fucktards can’t get away with politicizing our highest judical office..or can they?

First evidence of a DOJ deleted email by Sampson

TruthOut has this lovely gem up on their site:

If you can’t read it, click the image and it will take you to a larger version of it on TruthOut’s website. To excerpt their article:

An internal Department of Justice email dealing with a series of the most controversial aspects of the US attorney firing scandal was deleted by a DOJ official the day after Congress began to address the firings. Three months later, the official told Congressional investigators he had not destroyed any documents or deleted any records relating to the US attorney firings.

This is the first publicly released evidence that individuals directly involved in the plan to fire eight US attorneys have destroyed documents that are of interest to Congressional investigators. This revelation has raised some eyebrows with members of Congress, but officials were unwilling to speak publicly about it. The House of Representatives Judiciary Committee did not respond in time for publication.

Kyle Sampson, former chief of staff to Attorney General Alberto Gonzales and a central coordinator of the US attorney purge, deleted an official email on January 12, 2007. The email was a correspondence between Sampson and the DOJ White House Liaison Monica Goodling that dealt with the controversial appointment of GOP loyalist Tim Griffin to the post of US attorney for the Eastern District of Arkansas.

Three months after this email was deleted from Sampson’s computer, he was interviewed behind closed doors by Congressional investigators. According to a Senior Congressional Aide with access to the non-public transcript of the interview, Sampson was asked directly if he destroyed documents or emails relating to the US attorney purge. He answered “No.” The Congressional aide asked to remain anonymous because the interview transcript has not been made public.

The DOJ did not respond to repeated inquires into this matter. Kyle Sampson’s lawyer did not return requests for comment.

Here are the forgotten emails and documents from Ms. Monica’s personal computer. The first page is the introductory email from her attorney explaining why these weren’t turned over earlier. It’s 83 pages of documents. But I am going to slog through them at my leisure.

If the Democrats don’t start doing something with this ‘evidence’ they are collecting, I am going to go postal. I swear on Axl Rose’s little black heart.

EDIT: wow..my sitemeter tells me that Monica’s Lawyers spent 7 minutes on my site today reading my writeup on her..attention whores anyone?

DoJs latest Document dump has some interesting finds

TPMmuckraker is a wonderful site. They actually comb through the hundreds of pages of emails, etc the Dept of Justice tosses at the various Senate and House committee’s that are investigating all the bs and possible corruption going on. As they note in a post last night:

Leonard Leo the executive vice president of the Federalist Society offers then director of the Executive Office of the US Attorney his two cents in who would make a nice replacement for the US Attorney in San Diego. His suggestion was Mary Walker, who as McClatchy points out, has ties to the White House:

Walker led a Pentagon working group in 2003, which critics said helped provide the administration with a rationale to circumvent the international Geneva Conventions banning torture in the interrogations of terrorism suspects.

Leo’s recommendation is dated March 7, 2005, almost two years before Lam was fired, but just days before her name appeared on one of the firings lists.

There is also a good Goodling email apparently. Read their article for the 411.

Today is Monica-day up on Capitol Hill

Around 7 AM pacific time TODAY..the hearing will commence my dear reader. The House Hearing with Former White House Liaison for the DoJ, Monica Goodling will be available on TV via CSPAN3. If your at work or outside the U.S., you can watch it online at the CSPAN website here. If your workplace has scrooge-like qualities and you can’t watch streaming video..then you can listen to the proceedings via CSPAN radio here.

Also, TPMmuckraker will provide us with the important grilling, I mean questioning via their live-blogging AND YouTube videos..God, I simply love them for that. I will probably post them here as the hearing progresses. I CAN NOT WAIT for Henry Waxman to get his shot at her, it better be worth the build-up and the hype. She is already trying to withhold documents..DoJ documents I might add.

So pop some popcorn, get comfy if you can and lets see what this witch has to say, after all..they had to cough up immunity to get this bible-thumping, wannabe lawyer to testify.
