Ashcroft hits the motherload.

From TruthOut we get this, and its a friggin doozy:

When U.S. Attorney Christopher Christie announced a $311 million settlement to end a probe into kickbacks by leading manufacturers of knee and hip replacements, he touted the agreement as a groundbreaking development for consumers and the industry.

The deal also proved to be lucrative for Christie’s old boss.

Former U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft was one of five private attorneys whom Christie hand-picked to monitor the implant makers. Now Ashcroft’s D.C.-based firm is poised to collect more than $52 million in 18 months, among the biggest payouts reported for a federal monitor.(emphasis mine)

Sweet Jesus in a speedo..thats some job Johnny. Congrats on fucking the American taxpayer out of a whole lotta cash for doing very little.

Tremendous upside to keeping your piehole shut about all the bullshit and bravado that went down whilst you worked for BushCo dude…seriously.

Cheney and his Reagan moment…

Didn’t mean to abandon my blog but the week hasn’t been the best one for the most part..unless you count having lunch w/ my dear friend Bluegrrrl from PeaceTrain. We had a long lunch and guess what we talked about..go on..guess…

BLOGGING, BLOGS and BLOGGERS.

We did talk politics too, after all, we are political bloggers and God knows BushCo gives us all plenty to blog about..such as this one..

The Big Dick Cheney had the nads to actually lie his ever-loving ass off on TV again, about Hillary’s letter. That wasn’t the biggest lie however…his “I do not recall” moment regarding whether he sent Abu Gonzales to Ashcroft’s bed was the highlight I think. Oh, I also choked on my water when I read this part of the Editor and Publisher piece:

He also admitted, for the first time, that his 2005 comment about the “last throes” of the insurgency in Iraq had been far off base: “My estimate at the time — and it was wrong, it turned out to be incorrect — was the fact that we were in the midst of holding three elections in Iraq, elected an interim government, then ratifying a constitution, then electing a permanent government, that they had had significant success, we’d rounded up Saddam Hussein. “I thought there were a series of these milestones that would in fact undermine the insurgency and make it less than it was at that point. That clearly didn’t happen. I think the insurgency turned out to be more robust.”

Oh please, you lying sack of batshit..gimme a freaking break. The E&P article also has the transcript of the “hospital visit” part of the interview..it’s short..check it out and see how many times in the span of two questions he says I DO NOT RECALL. Or, if you don’t want an Excedrine headache..don’t..it’s your choice my dear reader.

Schumer, Gonzo and the gang of 8

Chuck was the last man to question Alberto today. He asked direct yes or no questions of the man who heads our country’s Justice Department. He asked about the meetings with the gang of 8. Schumer asked him direct yes or no questions regarding the clandestine meeting with a barely lucid John Ashcroft at the hospital.

Uncle Al side-stepped each and every friggin one of those direct questions. That’s a surprise I know..Watch Specter and Leahy grill this bastard on YouTube Here.

Al tried to discredit Comey’s previous testimony before the committee regarding the warrentless spying on Americans.

Simply put, Alberto Gonzales is a Shit-stain on the Department of Justice in these here United States.

EDIT: Tomorrow morning at 7 freaking AM on the left coast..the House Jusdiciary committee will take up the matter of Contempt of Congress Citations on Cspan3..don’t miss it!

Congress wants Ashcroft to testify

Both the Senate and House Judicial committee’s want to talk to former AG John Ashcroft. The subject is that lovely little visit made to his sickbed. Per the Newsweek article:

The Senate and House Intelligence Committees are asking former attorney general John Ashcroft to testify about a March 2004 hospital-room confrontation during which he refused to sign off on a continuation of President Bush’s warrantless eavesdropping program, according to congressional and administration sources.

The panel plans to question Ashcroft, his former chief of staff David Ayres and former deputy attorney general James Comey about a heated dispute with the White House that roiled the Justice Department three years ago. The House committee is also planning a separate closed-door hearing with Ashcroft, according to a spokeswoman for Ashcroft.

The problem is..Ashcroft is still a loyal “Bushie”, but he wasn’t enamored with the wiretapping program either. I can’t wait to see how this turns out..can you my dear reader?
